MyEG's online portal is the gateway for foreign worker permits, road tax, summons payments, and dozens of other Malaysian government services. It requires document uploads — and those uploads have size limits that phone camera photos and scanner apps regularly exceed.

MyEG's portal limits are set by individual agencies and may change. If you hit an upload error that doesn't match the limits above, target 1.5MB to be safe — that clears virtually every MyEG upload scenario.

Scan or photograph the document
Use your phone camera or a scanner. For phone photos: use the document scanner in Google Drive (Android) or Notes (iPhone) rather than the regular camera — scanner mode automatically corrects perspective and improves contrast, producing a better document image at a smaller file size than a raw photo.
Export as PDF
Most scanner apps export directly as PDF. If you only have a JPG, use the Images to PDF tool to convert it first — MyEG generally prefers PDF over raw image files for document uploads.
Compress with Maximum level
Open shrinkpdf.fyi, upload your PDF, and select Maximum compression. For IC and passport scans, Maximum compression reduces the file to 300–800KB — well under MyEG's 2MB limit — while keeping all identifying information clearly legible.
Verify clarity before uploading
Open the compressed PDF. Check that the IC number, full name, and expiry dates are clearly readable at 100% zoom. MyEG reviewers need to verify these details from the uploaded document — if they can't read them, the application may be rejected or delayed.
Upload to MyEG
Log in to MyEG, proceed to the document upload step, and submit the compressed file. If the portal shows a file size error, check the compressed file size — if it's still over the limit, try compressing the original again at Maximum, or re-scan at lower DPI (150 DPI grayscale) first.
